Talk Mobile Phone Deals

Talk Mobile is a smaller provider, but that does not mean they should be overlooked. They were formed in 2007 by Carphone Warehouse and have gone from strength to strength ever since. The company offers a small range of handsets and pay monthly packages and also have Sim Only deals available as well. Utilising the Vodafone network means they can provide customers with a good level of coverage. If you are looking to get a new pay monthly deal or sim only package, take a look at what they have to offer.

Talk Mobile Sim Only Deals

They offer four sim only deals and these are all structured to work over a rolling 30-day contract duration, which provides an element of flexibility you cannot get everywhere. They offer a smaller data package and strive to keep things simple. You can pick 250MB, 1GB, 4GB or 12GB so this isn’t suitable for significant data users but perfect if you have a minimum requirement for a substantial data allowance. All of the options come with unlimited talk time and texts, which is useful, and as long as you keep paying, it will keep renewing. When you want to leave you simply need to wait till the end of the month, and there is no other commitment.

Talk Mobile Extras

The whole premise of the company is simplicity, so with that in mind, they are focusing on basic no-frills mobile plans. This means that the phones they have on offer are unlikely to be new flagships but a range of handpicked older phones. They are perfect for users who prefer their mobile to be a phone and have little to no interest or use in the range of apps and social side on offer with other handsets. Talk Mobile has competitive pricing starting at just £5 a month, so perfect for low use customers.

Talk Mobile Coverage

Using the Vodafone network affords the company a good level of coverage for their customers, so you are guaranteed a 99% coverage across the UK. If you are unsure as to the level of Vodafone service in your area, Talk Mobile has a coverage checker which can be found here https://talkmobile.co.uk/uk-coverage-checker. Once you have added the location which you can do by inputting the postcode or the town name etc., you will be shown your area on a map with a breakdown of signal for 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G enabling you to decide whether it will be a service that works for you.

Talk Mobile Roaming

Being primarily aimed at the UK market, there are no specific international calling plans in place; instead they have created zones and charges are based on the zone you are travelling within. These can be found on their website, and countries are listed in zones in alphabetical order to make it easier to find what you are looking for. They have reasonable charges, for example, zone one which is pretty much the EU offers 19p a minute calling and 6p a text. The most expensive zone is zone 7, and this rises to £1.49 a minute and 20p per text.

Talk Mobile Customer Service

Being a small company they seem to have nailed their customer service provision, there is a live chat facility, and the rest of the contact details are easy to find, and you can call or write to them as well. The opening hours are limited to business hours, so overnight there is nothing available. On the website, you will find there is a good amount of information to help you find the answers to common problems so you may be able to manage without needing to speak to the customer service team.

Talk Mobile Tariffs

The tariffs follow the same format as the Sim only deals and have been deliberately kept as simple as possible. You can only access the handsets as an upgrade, but it is not clear how this works, you are directed to a phone number and need to call to set up an upgrade. Sim only deals can be purchased on the website, and the process is easy to follow. The tariffs for pay monthly upgrades do not offer any big data plans either, so you will need to be confident you can manage on 12GB or less.

Talk Mobile Wifi Calling

Needing to use your phone and discovering you have no signal is frustrating, to say the least, and until recently there wasn’t much you could do about it. However, thanks to wifi calling this has changed, and now you can use a wifi connection to make calls, receive calls, and text. It is simple to set up and doesn’t cost the owner of the wifi anything. You will pay as normal using your allowances as if you were making a standard call or sending a standard text. This is a godsend if you travel within the UK and suddenly find you have no signal especially as hotels and cafes tend to offer their customers access to wifi so finding that might be easier in a bad signal area.

Talk Mobile Tethering & Hotspots

Alternatively you can use your handset to create a temporary internet connection for a wifi only device if there is no wifi available. This utilises 4G and enables you to create a hotspot with your mobile phone. You can then tether your laptop or iPad or another device, enabling it to access the Internet via the phone. The one thing to remember is this is very hard on your data, and with only 12 gigabytes available each month as a maximum, you can soon find yourself running out.

As a temporary measure to access something only available on your laptop, it is worth doing, but if you need to do this sort of thing on a more regular basis, you would undoubtedly need big data or unlimited data which is not something Talk Mobile supplies. Going over your data allowance can cost you a lot of money alternatively if you have capped your service, it will simply not work.
